Buddhism
is a dharmic, non-theistic religion, which is also
a philosophy and a system of psychology. Buddhism
is also known as Buddha Dharma or Dhamma, which means
the "teachings of the Awakened One" in Sanskrit and
Pali, the languages of ancient Buddhist texts. Buddhism
was founded around the fifth century BCE by Siddhartha
Gautama, hereafter referred to as "the Buddha". (wikipedia)
Numerous distinct groups have developed since the
passing of the Buddha, with diverse teachings that
vary widely in practice, philosophical emphasis, and
culture. However, there are certain doctrines which
are common to the majority of schools and traditions
in Buddhism, though the Mahayana tends not to regard
them as central.
